About SR Audio

In 1999, the first preamp was built. The idea came from a magazine article I saw. So I built one. It had the same features as the Wormburner Guitar Preamplifier, plus some others. Included was a Mute switch, balanced output, and a meter all in a half rack space cabinet. This first preamp spent a lot of time in my rig. It was also the preamp that spent time with some of my friends that play guitar. I was surprised at what they said. The sustain and tone came back. Now they all have a preamp or two. Each one of those preamps is different from each other.

In 2004, SR Audio was formed. In 2005, the “Wormburner” brand name came about. Also, the “Wormburner Guitar Preamplifier” was developed. It started when a guitar player I had just met, took a rack preamp home for a week. He demoed it , but did not purchase it. Instead, a smaller preamp was dicussed. The Mute switch, the meter, and balanced output were removed. The power supply was made smaller, and the preamp was made to fit in a 4x6 inch box. A bypass switch was added. Thinking this was possible, I built a prototype. This preamp went to a couple of guitar players to be demoed. The prototype preamp went to a relative, and a production preamp went to the one who suggested it be made smaller.

In 2005, the final design was done, including artwork. In 2006, the preamp became the first production unit. Depending on demand, other production units will come. Also custom preamps are available to those who want them.

Our goal is to provide high quality preamps at a reasonable price. The Lord Jesus Christ watches everything we do. He loves all of us very much.
